STUDENT ACCOUNTS OFFICER

SUMMARY:

The Student Accounts Officer is responsible for student financial accounts at an institution of higher education. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops university policies and procedures in the area of student accounts.

Directs student account activities, including receipt of funds and collection of payments.

Oversees the posting and billing of charges to appropriate accounts.

Monitors federal, state, and private grant budgets and transactions for compliance with grant requirements.

Performs periodic audit of accounts, as needed.

Reviews delinquent loan accounts and negotiates repayment agreements.

Compiles and prepares various financial reports related to student accounts.

Coordinates collection activities with financial aid office, billing services, collection agencies, and other government offices.

Maintains files and records in university database and coordinates data processing services required for student account billing and financial reporting.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of student financial aid programs. Knowledge of collection agencies’ procedures and methods. Knowledge of auditing principles and procedures. Ability to direct student account activities. Ability to monitor grant budgets and transactions and determine compliance.
Ability to compile and report information and statistics from student accounts.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration or related field; plus two years of experience in student financial accounts or a related area.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
