HOSPITAL PROGRAM SERVICES ASSISTANT
The Hospital Program Services Assistant is responsible for providing routine non-professional care to patients and for administrative support functions in a hospital setting. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Charts and reports any change of patient care, condition, and progress, receives daily assignment, and reviews previous shift reports.
Administers bedside and personal care, such as ambulation and personal hygiene assistance, and assists nursing staff with routine and emergency medical procedures.
Observes and reports patient condition by making rounds and responding to calls for assistance, and notifies nursing staff of any problems or concerns.
Provides assistance to patients at mealtime by escorting, delivering trays, serving, collecting empty trays, distributing meal cards, feeding the disabled, and cleaning patients or areas.
Assists patients with recreational activities or transports patients to and from appointments.
Serves as team leader for nursing assistants; escorts and provides new employee orientation as needed. Attends in-service training and participates in goal settings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of routine patient care and personal hygiene practices. Knowledge of hospital administrative procedures Ability to monitor patients and record basic medical information. Ability to assist and/or instruct patients as needed. Ability to complete documentation and reports in a hospital setting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in a medical environment or a related area.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Division of Higher Education.
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
